chilling out by lake zurich in switzerland, analyzing all i’d seen in greece, italy, the czech republic, etc i finally felt relaxed and unhurried. no trains or boats to catch, no museums to hustle through, no tourists crowding my space. clear water and bright skies, warm sun and cool swimming—
after six hours of lazing about and bobbing in the lake i felt at my limit of pure sun absorbtion and was getting tired of resmearing sunblock on my easily burnt whiteflesh. upon going to shower back at the hostel i caught a glimpse of my back and with closer inspection noticed a bright red thunderbird shape across my shoulderblades. (much like the pontiac symbol) my lack of flexibility and unwillingness to attend yoga sessions had come to haunt me when applying sunscreen. thus i was left with a birdshaped burn tatooed on my back.
now without hot sun in amsterdam, i am reminded of laughing at my brother for a similar incident, leaving him with a round ball-shaped burn in the center of his back.. karma maybe, or just carelessness. a freaking thunderbird though…
maybe it was a pheonix.
