a leisurely drive after work to check out motorcycle tires and helmets placed me amongst many interesting sights. first was the quickly turning fall leaves, beginning to burst into reds, yellows, oranges and many hues in between.
next was the slow-driving tourists with mouths agape, looking for their poorly marked bed and breakfast while taking in the scenery with one eye tightly shut and the other pressed firmly against the eyepiece of a video camera.
enjoying my drive at speeds just above the legal limit, i was passed by a pretty girl whose license plates gave her home state as massachusetts and who promptly directed her middle finger my way for lingering too long in the passing lane. waving back to her with four loosely waggled fingers in as friendly a manner as i could muster, i had to just look back out at the mountains and the multicolored forests and forget about impatience for a while. finally, i spotted a helicopter which appeared to be airlifting a porta-potty from atop a small mountain called camel’s hump. the johnny-on-the-spot twirled in the air and dangling from a forty foot rope seemed anxious to meet the honey-wagon which would eventually evacuate its precious cargo. ahh, vermont in the fall…
