found myself watching a horse surgery—- an arthroscopy—- where they scraped a chunk of excess cartiladge off of a leg joint. pretty impressive to see a horse anesthetized and lying on its back while a couple of doctors work away. copious amounts of free pizza were next and a small tour of the equine medical facilities. met a big draft horse that was the resident blood donor. then after milling around a while and scarfing a couple more slices of pizza, my friend dr. amy invited me to put on some scrubs and sit in on an emergency eye surgery on an arabian.
rather captivating to see skilled people stitch the soft tissue of a horse’s eye.
in the eighteen years of growing up around sheep and cattle, i really only remember one vet coming out to look at a cow, and he merely fished around the cow’s rectum and offered some advice.
